Thrust 1

Transformational coastal infrastructure design and construction: CREATE will offer innovative, sustainable methods for enhancing coastal infrastructure durability using nature-based, advanced material-based, and modeling solutions. Research efforts in this thrust will result in transformational recommendations for incorporating durability in coastal infrastructure design and construction, which is missing in the practice. There have been great strides recently in innovative design with NNBFs, advanced materials, and numerical modeling methods, but most have not been evaluated with respect to durability. Research projects in Thrust 1 also align with the US DOT Challenges of Promoting Safety and Preserving the Environment.
